Decent unsanded surface leather does not let water through when greased, only at the end of a whole day of rain.
A sturdy sole with a rubber edging that goes around the shoe protects the shoe even in the worst weather.
And no "waterproof" membrane, just a regular leather interior. This way, when the shoe gets wet, it sometimes dries out. When I got soaked in the fells, I got these dry in one dry day.
The shoes have seemed very durable. At least a good month of snuggling up in the heart of Northern Norway didn't cause the shoes the slightest problem. For a change, something I can't break right away.

I wear them every day at work. I am a carpenter/fustier. The lacing is amazing with the ball bearings at the bottom and the "stop" in the middle which allows you to tighten the bottom well and keep the top a little more open.
The interior leather is very fine and pleasant. Only problem: I should have taken a size above...| Overall rating |

Super comfortable leather lined boot. For whatever reason the fit seems smaller than other Meindl boots, may want to size up a half size as per Euro sizing say from a 44.5 to a 45
